What Monkey is

Monkey is a random video and text chat service that pairs you with strangers in one tap. Apple removed it from the App Store over safety concerns, so today it runs as an Android app and as a web version in the browser.

Why people look for a Monkey alternative

01

The camera is on before the conversation is

Every match opens on a live face. Parents' guides report sexual content and harassment in those first seconds, which is exactly when nobody has agreed to anything yet.

02

No iPhone app anymore

After the App Store removal, iPhone users are pushed to a browser version. Plenty of people take that as their cue to look elsewhere.

03

An age rule with nothing behind it

Internet Matters notes that Monkey sets an adult age rule without real age verification, so the rule depends on people telling the truth.

04

Skipping is the whole loop

When the next face is one tap away, nobody stays long enough for a real exchange. Some users simply get tired of the shuffle.

The best Monkey alternatives

  1. 1

    HushNo camera, no photos

Hush suits the Monkey user who liked the rush of meeting someone new but not the part where a stranger's camera decides the next five seconds. You still get a real person you did not know a minute ago. The difference is that they meet your voice and your words, not your bedroom, and the conversation has room to go past hello.

  2. 2

    Azar

Still video-first, but run by Match Group with translation and safety blurring. Rated 18+ on the App Store.

  3. 3

    Chatroulette

The original random webcam site, now with registration and AI moderation. Still a camera.

  4. 4

    Slowly

The opposite end: pen-pal letters that take hours to arrive, with an avatar instead of a photo.

When Monkey is still the better pick

Stay on Monkey if live video is the point for you. If you want to see faces, read body language and flip through many people in a short session, a voice-and-text app will feel slow, and Hush is built to be slower on purpose.

Questions people ask

Apple removed Monkey over child safety concerns. It is still available on Android and as a web version you open in a browser.

Yes. Hush keeps the stranger part and drops the camera. You choose a vibe, get paired with a real person, and trade short voice notes or writing. There is no video and no photo at any point.

Hush is built around a different medium. Voice notes are screened before they reach the other person, flagged content goes to a human within minutes, and media cannot be sent without mutual consent. With no camera, the most common way these chats go wrong is not there.
