What Whisper is

Whisper launched in 2012 as an anonymous posting app where people shared confessions as text laid over an image, in a public feed. MediaLab later became its operator. The app was pulled from app stores several times and is no longer operating.

Why people look for a Whisper alternative

01

It shut down

Whisper disappeared from both stores in 2025 and has not come back. Long-time users lost the place they went to say things they could not say elsewhere.

02

A feed is not a listener

Posting to a crowd brings hearts and comments, sometimes kind, sometimes not. Many former users really wanted one person to talk back.

03

Years of store instability

The app was removed and restored on the App Store and Google Play several times between 2022 and 2025, so many users had already started looking around.

The best Whisper alternatives

  1. 1

    HushNo camera, no photos

Hush suits former Whisper users who came for the honesty that anonymity allows but wanted it to land with someone. Pick Deep Conversations and you are paired with a real person in the same mood. You can say the thing out loud in a voice note or type it, and someone answers, without a face or a name attached.

  2. 2

    Tellonym

Anonymous messages to your profile, with answers shown publicly.

  3. 3

    Slowly

Anonymous-feeling pen pals with avatars, for longer, slower honesty.

When Whisper is still the better pick

Whisper is no longer available, so staying is not an option. If what you liked was reading other people's confessions rather than talking, a public anonymous feed or forum will suit you better than Hush, which has no feed at all.

Questions people ask

Whisper was removed from the App Store and Google Play several times and stopped operating in 2025. Australia's eSafety guide lists it as no longer operating from January 2025.

Both let you be honest without your identity attached. The difference is the audience: Whisper posted to a crowd, Hush pairs you with one real person who answers you.

To other users, yes. They see an aura, a color and a name you chose, and your voice if you send a voice note. There is no photo, no public profile and no follower list.
